Wuyi Rock Oolong – Rou Gui (Cinnamon Oolong)

From: $18.98

Weight: 1.7 oz

Rou Gui, our Cinnamon Oolong, is sweet and rich with dry cinnamon notes. Known also as Wuyi Cassia Oolong and Yu Gui Oolong, this is another of Fujian province’s famous ‘rock’ oolongs.

This tea is 40 to 50 percent oxidized. The dark, greenish-brown, lightly curled, long leaves carry the subtly sweet and spicy aroma of cassia, a cinnamon-like bark.

The liquor is very clear, golden amber which has a honey, orchid aroma and a full, rich, very slightly smoky flavor with a lingering citrus aftertaste.

Origin: Wuyi Mountain, Fujian Province, China

Brewing Tips:

  • 194°F ~ 212°F (90°C ~ 100°C)
  • It is recommended to brew Rou Gui in a porcelain pot, a Gaiwan, or a Zisha pot.

Description

Wuyi Rock Oolong teas, including Rou Gui, have a long history dating back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Already at that time these teas were highly prized and are even mentioned in ancient Chinese literature.

The Wuyi Mountains, where Wuyi Rock Oolong is grown, are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The region is known for its stunning natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and historical importance.

Our teas are handpicked during the spring season and the leaves are carefully selected to ensure exceptional quality. This tea is a true delight for enthusiasts as it strikes a perfect balance between the freshness of green teas and the richness of black teas.
