Yixing (Zisha) clay originates from the Jiangsu Province in China. This material has been used for Chinese pottery since the time of the Song Dynasty which spans from 960 to 1279. During the 17th century, “Zisha wares” were often exported to Europe and soon spread across the globe.
The reddish-brown clay that is known as Yixing (purple) clay is often left unglazed when creating teapots, teacups, and tea pets. The unglazed material allows for a porous nature that enhances tea over time through the buildup of plaque on the teaware’s walls. This residue enters the tea that is brewed in the teaware to create a more complex and intense flavor that increases with the number of uses.

Great for my new home office. I want to have good tea and a good mug but don’t have the time to get my gaiwan out! I love the feel of the clay and it really enhances the tea experience. Definitely recommend!
